Review: LEGO Scooby-Doo! Haunted Hollywood

WARNING ******* SPOILER ALERT ******* WARNING******* SPOILER ALERT *******

LEGO Scooby-Doo! Haunted Hollywood is a direct to DVD and Blu-Ray original movie that was released May 10, 2016. I know that was quite a while ago, but I received the DVD as a Christmas gift and I finally was able to sit down and focus on it 100% last night.

In the beginning of the movie, Shaggy and Scooby were used as bait to catch a monster. As they were running, they decided to swear off Scooby Snacks so they no longer had to be bait. They ran up the steps of the LEGO Lighthouse and as the sea creature reached the top, Scooby used a fishing pole to create a zip line for him and Shaggy to go down. The sea creature kept chasing them and eventually they ended up in the trap, which then fell on top of the sea creature.

Of course, catching monsters always makes Scooby and Shaggy hungry! So they headed to the local hamburger shop where they came upon a huge pile of hamburgers. After Scooby and Shaggy devoured them, they were told the burgers were for a hamburger eating contest, which they now won! Their prize was an all expense paid trip to Hollywood!

This started the opening credits, which I thought were done well! I liked how they made everyone's names out of LEGOs and then the LEGOs broke apart. It was fun and it made sense for a LEGO movie!

The gang makes it to Hollywood and their first stop is Brickton Studios, the home to the worlds scariest monsters. They get a tour of the studio, where classic scary movies are made. One of the funniest lines was when Velma said "the only thing to fear at a movie studio is their sequels." It was also kind of funny that the same guy, Junior, was the security guard, the valet, the tour guide, the janitor, the night watchman, and the page.

A Scooby movie wouldn't be complete without the gang being chased by a monster. This movie has 3 monsters that chase them - The Headless Horseman, Zombie and Mummy. Daphne was really excited to be chased by The Headless Horseman in Hollywood!

This movie has destruction (of LEGOs), fire, 3 monsters, Shaggy and Scooby dressing up in costumes (including Shaggy as Batman, Godzilla and a hot dog that Scooby chases), and a ton of food for them to eat. They definitely didn't skimp on the food in this movie. It seemed like Scoob and Shag were trying to save food through most of it.

I enjoyed this movie. It went with the typical Scooby format, which is always good in my opinion. It was nice to see all of the Scooby-Doo LEGO sets in the movie...the Lighthouse, Mansion, Airplane and The Mystery Machine. It made me want to finish putting all of my sets together! The one thing I felt was missing from the movie was more use of the LEGOs. There were times their hair fell off and Velma accidentally removed someone's head, but I felt like they could have done so much more. One of the things I did like was the LEGO blueprint for the giant sandwich Shaggy and Scooby made.

In case anyone was wondering, Scooby jumped into Shaggy's arms 6 times in the movie. "Zoinks" was said once, "Jinkies" was said once and "Jeepers" was said twice.

I would recommend watching this movie. I think the kids will enjoy it and it's a fun movie to watch with the whole family.

    1. It would be weird for me to review something non-Scooby on a Scooby blog.
